Kelly, a 31 year old single mother of a 4 1/2 year old daughter received the first Paula M. Rivard Scholarship Award in the amount of $1,000 for education expenses. Currently, she is attending Middlesex County College, majoring in Medical Laboratory Technology. This summer she will participate in her first hospital clinical rotation. She plans to complete this program May 2006.
Kelly is a 2003 graduate of Amandla Crossing Transitional Housing, a MIPH program. She states, "Without the help of Amandla, I believe that I would not be in the position that I am in now. I have had the ease of maintaining a decent living environment while being a full-time student and a full-time mother. As a graduate of Amandla, I have had a greater ability to maintain my personal bills and manage my life."
Kelly thanks Amandla for providing single women with the opportunity to advance and succeed in life.
